From 8,000 followers to a full-time income

A nano creator on why audience size mattered less than trust.

Meet Ananya

Ananya runs a home décor account from Pune. When she joined Axaupdrop, she had 8,200 Instagram followers and was posting mostly for herself — room makeovers, thrift finds, DIY projects.

She wasn't sure affiliate marketing would work for someone without 100K followers. Six months later, it's her primary income.

"I assumed scale was everything"

"Every article I read said you need a certain number of followers to make money. I almost didn't sign up because I thought I was too small."

What Ananya didn't account for was her engagement rate — around 11%, more than four times the average for larger accounts. Her audience wasn't just following her; they were asking where she bought things.

The first month

Ananya started by adding links to products she'd already posted about — a wicker basket organiser, linen curtains, a brass lamp she'd sourced from a local market and found a similar version of online.

Her first payout was ₹1,840.

"It felt like nothing at first. But I realised I wasn't doing anything extra — I was just making my existing posts shoppable."

What changed

Over the next three months, Ananya started being intentional:

  • She created a "Shop My Home" highlight on Instagram, linking to her Axaupdrop shop page
  • She answered every comment that asked where she'd bought something with a link
  • She did one room tour reel per month where she linked every product visible in the video

  • Month four: ₹28,000.

    The trust factor

When we asked what she attributed her growth to, she said trust, not tactics.

"My audience knows I'm not going to recommend something I wouldn't buy myself. I've turned down brands that didn't fit my home. That consistency is why they click."

She's turned down three "sponsored" opportunities that would have paid more upfront because they didn't fit the aesthetic she's built.

    Today

Ananya now earns consistently between ₹35,000 and ₹55,000 a month through Axaupdrop. She's started getting inbound collaboration requests from brands she actually uses.

"I always thought I had to grow to make money. Turns out I just had to monetise what I already had."

Ananya's story is real. Her name and some details have been changed at her request.
